Kelly Sue Scott

September 22, 1961 — October 19, 2025

Kelly Sue Scott was born on September 22, 1961, in Framingham, Massachusetts, the daughter of Thelma Maxine Scott and the late William Wood Scott. A longtime resident of Baldwin City, Kansas, Kelly graduated from Baldwin City High School before attending Jackson County Community College and later DeVry Institute of Technology, where she graduated with honors on the Dean’s Honor Roll in June 1991. Kelly was first married to the late Christopher Sean Kinghorn, with whom she had two daughters. Following their divorce, she later married the late Mike Qualizza of Pleasanton, KS in 2006. Kelly and Mike both worked for Kansas City Power and Light. In her spare time, Kelly was an avid sewer and quilter who lovingly created and altered garments for members of her community. She enjoyed traveling to destinations such as Alaska and Yellowstone National Park, and she deeply valued her faith and fellowship with the First Baptist Church of Mound City. Kelly is survived by her daughter, Erin King (Corba) of Independence, Missouri; her mother, Thelma Maxine Scott of Baldwin City, Missouri; her brother, Patrick Scott (Crickett) of Gladstone, Missouri; and her sisters, Leslie Whited (Robert) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Dawn Scott of Olathe, Kansas. She is also survived by numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her father, William “Bill” Scott of Baldwin City, Kansas; her sister, Kimberly Payeur (Bernard); her daughter, Adrienne Claire Kinghorn; and her husband, Mike Qualizza.
