Josue Lorenzo-Ratliff

Jul 11, 1997 — Jul 5, 2026

With hearts full of sorrow, yet gratitude for the remarkable years we shared, we announce the unexpected passing of Josue Lorenzo-Ratliff. Josue was born on July 11, 1997, to Melissa Zamudio and Alfredo Lorenzo, in Emporia, Kansas. He left us far too soon on July 5, 2026, in Kansas City, Missouri.

In 2018, Josue met his fiancé and the love of his life, Summer Hooper, through a chance encounter with friends at a bowling alley. Through that encounter they grew an enduring partnership filled with countless cherished memories.

Josue had a radiating spirit that could not be ignored as he rarely met a stranger. He was the life of every gathering—a beacon of joy whose laughter had a way of echoing long after a party ended. His warmth radiated to those around him, marked by his gifts as a very good listener and a boundless willingness to help others. Josue loved fiercely; his family, friends, and everyone lucky enough to be in his circle felt this deep devotion. It was his nature to support and defend his circle of people. That loyalty is just one of many qualities that everyone already misses.

Those who knew Josue saw a man of varied interests and talents. Professionally, he dedicated himself as a tree trimmer. Beyond his profession, Josue’s enthusiasm for living was evident in his endless pursuit of adventure and fun.

A lover of experiences, Josue enjoyed exploring new restaurants, bowling, fishing, photography, video games, trips to the shooting range, and caring for those around him. At the heart of his home was his beloved dog, whom he loved like his own child. One of his favorite quotes was, “Live fast. Burn slow,” reminding everyone to embrace every moment in the day.

Josue’s presence will be deeply missed by his devoted family: his mother, Melissa Zamudio; his father, Alfredo Lorenzo; his step-father, Octavio Torres; his step-mother, Maria Rosario Lorenzo; his fiancé, Summer Hooper; his dear sisters, Olivia Cruz and Emili Lozano; his grandfather, Michael Riley; his grandmother, Elizabeth Riley; his aunts, Rebecca Spann, Karrie Sturgeon, Nohemi Lorenzo, Angelina Lorenzo, Araceli Lorenzo, Maribel Lorenzo, and Laura Lorenzo; his uncles, Esvin Lorenzo, David Lorenzo, Tomas Lorenzo, Marco Lorenzo and many other family and friends.

He is reunited beyond this world with his great-grandfather, Wallace Johnson; great-grandmother, Nadine Johnson; grandfather, Santiago Lorenzo; and grandmother, Rejina Andres.

The family would like to thank everyone who has reached out with condolences and memories of Josue. The prayers and support from everyone are appreciated during these difficult times.
