Alicia Martell, affectionately known as "Nana," passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025 in Overland Park, KS. She was 79 Years old.
Born in 1946 in Santa Barbara, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Federico and Inez De Leon, Alicia was a woman of quiet strength and deep devotion. She lived in Mexico until 1976, when she married the love of her life, Jose Martell. Together, they moved to Kansas City, KS where they built a future rooted in love and mutual support. Alicia and Jose shared a beautiful, supportive marriage for 22 years until his passing in 1998.
Alicia dedicated her professional life to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), providing comfort and compassion to countless residents at a local nursing home until her retirement. Though a reserved person, Alicia's spirit would truly light up with a sweet smile whenever she heard a funny joke. She found immense joy in the simple rhythms of life. She loved her mornings with a warm cup of coffee while watching "The price is right." She also found peace in people-watching, listening to music and the focused challenge of a word search puzzles. She was a passionate fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and loved cheering for Patrick Mahomes. Her greatest happiness came from the time she spent with her son Alfonso, Becky and her cherished grandchildren, Emiliano, Aurelio and Sophia.
Alicia was a devoted mother and an amazing stepmother to Jose's seven children: Marisela, Socorro, Manuel, Jose Luis, Florencio, Miguel and Raymundo.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Jose; her parents, Federico and Inez; and her siblings, Chata, Julia, Virginia and Joaquin. She is survived by her siblings, Lalo and Martha; extended family in Mexico, Carolina, Stephanie and Samantha; her son Alfonso (Rebecca); and beloved grandchildren, Emiliano, Aurelio and Sophia who were her greatest pride and joy.
Nana Alicia we love and miss you so much. While our hearts are heavy, we take comfort in knowing she is at peace surrounded by those we love.
