Jose Luis Carrillo

September 23, 1939 — November 18, 2021

Jose Luis was born on September 23, 1939 in Gomez Palacio, Durango, Mexico to Felix Carrillo and Concepcion Carrillo Venegas. On November 18, 2021 he left his earthly body to join his beloved wife Gabriela, whom he affectionately called Maria, at the gates of Heaven. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Guillermo Carrillo (Lydia) and Ramon Chacon (Josefina), He leaves behind his children, Cesar Carrillo, Ulises Carrillo, Ursula Carrillo Fernandez, Gerardo Carrillo, Yvonne Renne Carrillo, Ursula Carrillo, Cynthia Jane Newcomb, Gloria Jean Zavala; grandchildren, Salina Marie Renteria, Christopher Noel Zavala, Joseph Efrain Zavala, Guadalupe Zavala, Tina Lee Martinez and Robert Newcomb, Jr., Aaron Carrillo, Berenice Carrillo, Miriam Carrillo; great-grandchildren, Santana Jose Renteria, Olivia Annaliese Renteria, Jaeson Alejandro Villa, Emiliano Emmanuel Zavala, Salvador Tony Zavala, Cataleya Zavala, Charlyse Zavala, Frederick Meyer, Jasmine Meyer, Isaiah Byrd and Angelique Byrd and one great-great grandson, Marion. He leaves behind siblings Eduardo Carrillo (Martha) and Luz Elena Marin and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jose Luis spent many years as a laborer working in different positions. He worked as a sandblaster for the American Steel Company, as a track laborer for Union Pacific Railroad, as a custodian for the Turner School District and spent many years doing odd jobs for El Taquito Tortilleria before finally retiring. He loved to sit for hours and watch boxing. He was an amateur boxer in Mexico in his youth. He loved listening to music. His favorite artists included Fats Domino and the Everly Brothers. He was a jack of all trades and enjoyed tinkering. He enjoyed playing with his grandkids. This brought him many hours of joy over the years. In 2009, he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. He battled it and beat it and was in remission for 10 years before the cancer returned. In 2013, he fell and broke his pelvis and complications from that fall caused him to lose the ability to walk. Months of rehab helped him to regain some ability to walk again with the help of a walker, but his health was never the same afterwards. When he could no longer care for himself, his beloved wife cared for him until her passing in May of 2021. His daughters, granddaughter and great-grandchildren cared for him until the very end. He’s no longer in pain and walking hand in hand with his beloved Maria in Paradise. We love you Daddy; you’ll always be our hero and we'll miss you dearly.
